This gate derives its name from the glazed tiles used in the spandrels of the outer bigger arch. These tiles, which are set on the plaster base, are the earliest example of this technique which later on was developed at Lahore. The glare and reflection of the tiles Shisha Darwaza, means the Glass Gate.
